Senator Claire McCaskill

Senator Claire McCaskill Claire spoke on the Senate floor yesterday, expressing deep frustration with Senate gridlock over extending tax cuts for the middle class. Republicans threatened to kill the new START treaty, an international agreement to protect and secure nuclear weapons that has universal support from our military, in an effort to h...elp secure an extension of tax cuts for millionaires.

Senator Claire McCaskill While Claire’s top priorities during this legislative session are capping spending, addressing the national debt, ending the practice of earmarking, growing the economy and creating jobs, S. 510 is important because it will ensure that families in Missouri can be even more confident that the food they’re placing on kitchen tables is safe.

Senator Claire McCaskill Claire supported S. 510 because it updates our food safety system to safeguard against outbreaks of food-borne illness, while protecting small producers from new regulations mentioned in the previous post. Food safety laws in our country had not been updated since the 1940s, contributing to more than 15 recent, high-profile food safety outbreaks.

Senator Claire McCaskill the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act will not prohibit Americans from growing their own food. In fact, the bill also exempts small producers that sell directly to restaurants, farmers’ markets and consumers from any additional record-keeping or performance requirements. For specifics, read the bill in its entirety (link below):

    • John Farrell Kuhns Clair: the FDA's registration proceedure, even for companies that have renew their annual registration each and every year, is not phohibitively expensive and time consuming for all but the large companies. It used to be that one received a one-page form in the mail, filled it out and send it back. Now this must be done on-line and the forms are very similar to IRS forms. The result is that companies have sprung up that will do the reregistration for companies for a fee that starts at about $800.00!

That was kind of my point. Taking a 19-cent goldfish to the vet for meds. (LOL) For sure, the pahrma companies aren't going to get any of that action. Which is exactly why they don't want anyone making and selling aquarium supplies getting ...into the act without them.

Senator Claire McCaskill This morning, the Senate voted on an amendment to ban earmarks in appropriations bills through Fiscal Year 2013. Unfortunately, the amendment – which Claire introduced with Senators Tom Coburn (R-OK), John McCain (R-AZ) and Mark Udall (D-CO) – failed to clear the procedural hurdle of 67 votes needed for it to be consid...ered. The fight to end earmarks continues - Claire remains committed to bringing up the earmark ban

In addition to eliminating earmarks, McCaskill has also fought to bring fiscal discipline back to Washington by introducing legislation to cap discretionary spending, introducing pay-as-you-go legislation and cracking down on waste and fraud in federal contracting.

Senator Claire McCaskill I thought I'd share recipes of two of our traditional dressings we serve every year. One is my Kitchen Sink dressing. While full of carbs, it doesn't have much fat.

Senator Claire McCaskill I'm about to enter the zone, also known as my kitchen. I do all the cooking for the big Turkey Day. I love cooking. I grew up at my grandmother's knee in the kitchen. I watched and learned as she, her sister (Beppy), and my mother turned out amazing meals. Time in the kitchen + family= heaven.

Senator Claire McCaskill I'm thankful for so many things. My children, my husband, my mother, the great state I call home, my entire family, my work, my health, our military heroes, my country, my education, our messy democracy, music, ...... Well suffice it to say I'm very thankful because I have a very long list of God's blessings. I love Thanksgiving.
