    CHICAGO – November 30, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today announced the temporary extension of the Put Illinois to Work (PIW) program through Jan. 15, 2011. When federal funding for the program expired on Sept. 30, Governor Quinn extended PIW two months to provide a bridge in hopes that the U.S. Congress would act to continue funding the program. With Congress still considering additional funding for the program, the Governor is temporarily extending PIW with state funds for an additional six weeks. More than 26,000 workers have been hired since Put Illinois to Work was launched last April.

    Winter weather, with its frigid temperatures, snow and ice, can be extremely dangerous, even deadly. To help Illinoisans handle winter’s hazards, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) will highlight winter storm preparedness throughout November as part of its 12-Month Preparedness Campaign.

    "We've enjoyed beautiful weather this fall, but the snow, ice and frigid temperatures of an Illinois winter are just around the corner," said IEMA Interim Director Joe Klinger. "Many injuries and deaths related to winter weather could be prevented if people take a few minutes today to prepare."

    Illinois will host job fairs across the state to help put Veterans back to work and tell employers about tax credits that encourage business development to grow the state's economy.

    "Helping businesses create jobs and finding the right person for those new jobs is important as Illinois' economy continues to steadily improve," IDES Director Maureen O'Donnell said. "Our Veterans have the training, commitment and loyalty that make them excellent hires and we, as citizens, have a duty to honor their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their families and help them find good-paying jobs."

    Illinois Department on Aging Director Charles D. Johnson recently presented the 2010 Senior Hall of Fame and Governor's Unique Achievement Awards on behalf of Governor Pat Quinn during a ceremony held at the Executive Mansion. The Illinois Department on Aging holds the ceremony each year, with the support of Walgreens, to recognize the special contributions these seniors do to help improve communities.

    CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) recently announced the selection of Aetna and Centene-IlliniCare to provide the state's first-ever integrated health care program for seniors and persons with disabilities in the Medicaid program. The system links primary, specialty and institutional services and will improve care for Illinois' most vulnerable residents while saving significant taxpayer dollars.
