Kucinich to Join Family and Friends of John P. Gallagher at Post Office Dedication

Ceremony to Honor Irish-Catholic Civic Leader Day before St. Patrick’s Day

Washington, Mar 13 -

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) will join the family and friends of John P. Gallagher at the dedication ceremony to rename the West Park Post Office in honor of the life and legacy of the Irish Mr. Gallagher on Monday, March 16th, 2009, just one day before Cleveland celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Mr. Gallagher, a WWII veteran, passed away on September 10, 2008, leaving behind a legacy that reflected dedicated service to our country, and to the people of Cleveland’s Westside community.

Following his retirement as Sidewalk Superintendent with the City of Cleveland, Mr. Gallagher focused his time on the betterment of his community.  Mr. Gallagher became an activist on behalf of local senior citizens, promoting and working to instate new senior programs and services at the City of Cleveland’s Gunning Recreation Center.  Additionally, Mr. Gallagher kept a vigilant watch over his local neighborhood park, and volunteered as an usher at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Cleveland.  He was a life-long participant in the democratic process, having served as a Democratic Party Precinct Committeeman for many years.

Legislation introduced by Congressman Kucinich to name the building in honor of Mr. Gallagher, HR 6150, was passed unanimously in the House of Representatives last summer.

The building dedication of the West Park Post Office in honor of Mr. Gallagher will take place Monday, March 16, 2009 at 1:00 pm at the West Park Post Office, 14500 Lorain Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44111.
