Congresswoman Melissa Bean’s Statement on Veterans Day PDF Print

Thursday, 11 November 2010

Congresswoman Melissa Bean (IL-08) released the following statement in honor of Veterans’ Day:

“Veterans Day reminds our nation to honor and thank those who’ve committed to military service and personal sacrifice to protect our American freedoms.  I’m proud to join my fellow Americans to express our gratitude and respect for your service to our country.

“Working to support our veterans and their families has been and remains one of my greatest privileges in public service.  In the same way that the military makes a solemn pledge to leave no soldier behind on the battlefield, every member of Congress – Democrat and Republican – must make the same pledge to leave no veteran behind on the home front.

“We must honor our veterans, not just with words, but with votes of support for health care, housing, education, and job training benefits, as well as medic certification recognition and assistance to veterans who start their own businesses.

“As my own family remembers and honors the military service of my father and father-in-law in World War II, so do other American families recognize the contributions of their family members.  In that spirit, I join all Americans in honoring our veterans and their families for their heroism and selfless sacrifice in the name of our freedom.”
