New Natural Gas Facility Approved for Freeport

Washington, DC:  The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) recently approved a permit that will bring needed jobs and development to Freeport, Texas and surrounding areas.  The permit authorizes the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas receiving terminal on Quintana Island. 

Congressman Ron Paul and his staff helped cut through the bureaucratic paperwork and expedited the permit process.  Paul’s office worked with House Majority Leader Tom Delay to ensure that FERC and the Department of Energy made the Quintana project a priority.

Construction of the Quintana Island facility will employ approximately 500 workers for three years, while the terminal itself will employ a permanent staff of about 60.  These jobs will provide a needed boost to the ongoing efforts to revitalize the city of Freeport.
