Stimulus funds can be used to repair and modernize schools
WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords today announced that Fort Huachuca Accommodation Schools will receive $224,041 in federal economic recovery funds.
The funds are part of $7.18 million that will come to 35 Arizona school districts that serve Indian lands or military dependents. They will be distributed through the Department of Education’s Impact Aid Construction Formula Grants program.
Fort Huachuca Accommodation Schools has approximately 1,200 students, all of whom have an affiliation with the military, according to Superintendent Ronda Frueauff. She said the recovery funds will be put toward the construction of a new middle school, which could cost between $18 million and $22 million.
“We are very pleased that we are receiving these funds,” Frueauff said. “They will accelerate our timeline for building a new middle school.”
Federal economic recovery funds are being made available as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The act was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Obama earlier this year.
