U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords on Wednesday will host a town hall meeting at a Tucson volunteer tax assistance clinic on the economic stimulus package.
The one-hour town hall will provide a detailed explanation of the $168 billion package, including the steps taxpayers need to take in order to qualify for their rebate check from the Internal Revenue Service.
Following the town hall will be a four-hour tax clinic at which individuals or families earning less than $40,000 annually can receive free tax preparation assistance.
The economic stimulus package was approved by Congress last week with strong bipartisan support. It is intended to boost the economy by providing millions of Americans including seniors and veterans on disability with rebate checks amounting to between $300 and $1,200. Businesses will receive tax breaks for investing in new plants and equipment.
Individuals planning to attend should RSVP by noon, Tuesday, Feb. 19 to Giffords' Tucson office, 881-3588.
