Minnesota is home to many museums, galleries, theaters and concert halls. The arts industry accounts for more than $1 billion a year in Minnesota's economy and comprises more than 600 nonprofit small businesses, employing more than 8,000 people. Figures from the 1990 census show that Minnesota is home to more than 30,000 artists, and that number is only growing. The latest edition of the "Places Rated Almanac" recognizes the Twin Cities arts community as one of the nation's best, ranking us eighth on the continent.
