Tucson lawmaker will be joined by Chief Robert Gilbert of the Border Patrol and Captain Oscar Miranda of the Pima County Sheriff's Office
U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is convening a meeting today on mounting border-related public safety issues in Green Valley.
The two-hour meeting is in direct response to neighborhood safety concerns raised last week by the Green Valley Community Coordinating Council. The concerns stemmed in part from an incident involving an SUV carrying illegal immigrants that crashed into a home after a high-speed chase with the Border Patrol.
Information about that incident can be found on the website of the Green Valley News, http://www.gvnews.com/articles/2008/04/20/news/news01.txt.
Joining Giffords will be Robert Gilbert, chief of the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector, and Oscar Miranda, a captain with the Pima County Sheriff's Office. Green Valley residents will speak about recent public safety incidents in their neighborhoods.
The goal of the meeting is to develop an action plan to address the public safety concerns.
