Joining the Tucson lawmaker will be officials from the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services and the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System
U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will hold a public forum Saturday afternoon at the Northwest Campus of Pima Community College on veterans’ issues.
Giffords, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, will provide an overview of recent legislation concerning veterans, such as the Veterans Health Care Improvement Act of 2007. The act provides transportation and housing assistance to low-income veterans and assists homeless veterans in finding housing.
Veterans’ issues are a top concern for the Tucson lawmaker. Her Southeastern Arizona congressional district has a higher percentage of veterans than any of the state’s other congressional districts. The 9,000-square mile district also is home to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and Fort Huachuca.
Joining Giffords at the forum will be Michael Klier, deputy director of the state Department of Veterans’ Services, and Lonnie Siebrandt, chief of the Business Service Line at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System.
