Military Academy Nominations

As a member of Congress, I am honored to nominate young men and women to our nation's service academies each year. If you are interested in applying for a nomination to the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, please review the below requirements and submit an application to my office. Students wishing to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy do not need a congressional nomination.

To seek Congressman Wu's nomination for a United States military academy, you must:

• Be unmarried
• Be between the ages of 17 and 22
• Be a resident of Oregon's 1st Congressional District

Each application must include the following information.

First page of application:

• Service academy of choice (If you are considering multiple academies, please rank them in order of preference. If your academy of choice or preference order changes, contact my office immediately.)
• Full name, address, and contact information
• Date and place of birth
• Names of parent(s)
• Social security number
• High school grade point average, class standing, and class size

On separate pages:

• Resume of extracurricular activities
• Brief essay on why you would like to attend a service academy

In addition, please request that the following items are sent to my office:

• High school transcripts through junior year
• Official SAT or ACT scores
• Three letters of recommendation (From teachers, counselors, coaches, or those familiar with your work or volunteer activities)

*** All applications for the class of 2015 must be postmarked on or before October 30, 2010. Interviews will be scheduled on Saturday, November 13, 2010, and all applicants must be available for an interview on that date in order to be considered. Nominations will be announced by December 31, 2010. ***
