WU CRITICIZES ROLLOUT OF NEW TSA SCREENING PROCEDURES

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today Congressman David Wu released the following statement in response to the public outcry over new Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening policies:

“It's incredibly disappointing that today, on the busiest travel day of the year, TSA is still scrambling to explain and justify its new security proceedings to the American public.  It didn't have to be this way.  My subcommittee held a hearing in February—more than nine months ago—where we criticized TSA's lack of public acceptance data and urged the agency to ensure that legitimate public concerns are adequately addressed in the development and deployment of any next-generation airport screening technologies.  TSA should have done better.

“I am committed to continuing oversight of TSA’s security procedures so that we can both keep Americans safe and adequately protect their privacy.”
