Busy day includes a memorial mass for former Congressman McNulty, a solar cooking demonstration, a medal ceremony for two veterans, and throwing out the first pitch at a Bisbee Copper Kings game
TUCSON – U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will attend a memorial mass for former Arizona Congressman Jim McNulty on Saturday before traveling to Cochise County for back-to-back events in Sierra Vista and Bisbee.
McNulty represented Southeastern Arizona in the House of Representatives from 1983 to 1985. He passed away on June 30 at age 83. Giffords will attend a memorial mass for him at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Saint Augustine Cathedral.
Following the mass the congresswoman travels to Sierra Vista, where she will participate in two events at Fort Huachuca. At 12:30 p.m. she will join members of the fort’s Brownie Troop for a demonstration of solar cooking. The menu includes chicken casserole, pizza and – appropriately – brownies.
An hour later Giffords will present military service medals to two veterans. Vietnam veteran Fred Golladay will receive a Purple Heart and an Air Medal, and World War II veteran James Gann will receive a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
At 4 p.m. the congresswoman will be at the historic Warren Ballpark in Bisbee to throw out the ceremonial first pitch for a Copper Kings baseball game. Giffords also will present a Congressional Record statement honoring the ballpark’s centennial.
