Initial requests for medical treatment of veterans should be made to the department's local office. The local Outpatient Clinic may then refer the veteran to the Alvin C. York Medical Center or the Veterans' Hospital in Nashville.

Veterans who are able to prove that they have been honorably discharged, their spouses, and children under age 21 can be buried in Chattanooga's National Cemetary. Referrals may be made through the funeral home handling the arrangements for burial. The only form necessary for burial is the DD214.
