Priorities
Throughout his tenure in Congress, Rep. Towns has been actively involved in legislative efforts to improve health care services, strengthen our education system, and protect consumers from faulty products. He has also worked to ensure that all communities have access to affordable housing. Additionally, Towns has fought for a responsible budget that protects Social Security and for federal funds that promote local jobs. Environment
Congressman Towns knows that protecting the environment ensures a healthier Brooklyn. He has fought alongside his colleagues in the House to ensure cleaner air and water, while allowing for economic opportunities through the development of green technology.
Health Care
Although Congressman Towns is not currently serving on the Health Sub-Committee of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce due to his taking a two-year leave of absence, he still remains committed to improving our nation's health care services. He has introduced and co-sponsored numerous bills to improve health care services by fighting to expand health insurance coverage, provide a prescription drug benefit for seniors, and strengthen the public health system.
Public Health
From preventing and treating HIV/AIDS to reducing the harm associated with tobacco products and its use, Congressman Towns has a lifelong commitment to strengthening our public health system. As a former administrator at Beth Israel Medical Center, Towns believes that hospitals and public health departments serve as the glue that holds together our public health system.
Education
Congressman Towns has recognized the importance of education and the support thereof during his entire tenure as a Member of Congress due to his experiences as a student, a coach, a social worker, and as both a parent and a grandparent. He understands that education cannot be fully addressed without significant and consistent support for students, educators and administrators.
Housing
Since coming to Congress, Congressman Towns has been a tireless advocate for the housing needs of Brooklyn residents. In a district of both homeowners and renters, he recognizes the need to increase affordable housing and protect the rights of tenants. As the nation continues to face a housing crisis of unseen proportions, Congressman Towns will continue to support efforts that aim to fix the issues that affect the communities that make up Brooklyn.

Crime Priorities
As a social worker, Congressman Towns knows that crime against any individual has a substantial impact across a community. He also understands that eliminating the threat of crime requires systemic change on many fronts.
