U.S. Rep. Dennis Cardoza will present information on bill that makes historic investments in production, conservation and nutrition
U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will hold a public forum TODAY in Vail on the 2007 Farm Bill.
Joining the Tucson lawmaker will be U.S. Rep. Dennis Cardoza of California, a member of the House Agriculture Committee who serves as chairman of the Subcommittee on Horticulture and Organic Agriculture.
Giffords and Cardoza will present information on the Farm Bill, which governs all farm and food policy for the nation. This will followed by a question and comment period.
Giffords’ 9,000-square mile congressional district is home to more than 1,300 farms that generate more than $118 million in agricultural products annually. Between 2003 and 2005, district farmers and ranchers received more than $27 million in federal support to help them contribute to our nation’s food supply.
The House passed the Farm Bill in a 231-191 vote on July 27. The Senate is expected to take up its version of the bill later this month.
Among the House bill’s many provisions is an investment of more that $1.6 billion to strengthen and support America’s fruit and vegetable industry. It also implements mandatory country of origin labeling for fruit, vegetables and meat.
