Saturday brings Tucson lawmaker's 8th "Congress on Your Corner"
U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will host a public forum on proposed changes to Medicare on Friday in Tucson.
The two-hour forum will include a presentation by the congresswoman and representatives from AARP and the Pima Council on Aging. Anyone with an interest in Medicare is encouraged to attend. There will be plenty of time for questions.
Giffords recently voted for the Children’s Health and Medicare Protection Act, legislation aimed at improving Medicare while providing new funding for children’s health insurance. The act protects Medicare physicians from an impending 10 percent payment decrease while adding new preventative benefits, increasing assistance for low-income beneficiaries, and cutting overpayments to private insurance companies.
Friday’s Medicare forum is the third held by Giffords since Aug. 18. Others were held in Green Valley and Bisbee.
On Saturday, Giffords will host her eighth "Congress on Your Corner," an opportunity for constituents to meet one-on-one with the congresswoman and discuss any issue or concern involving the federal government. Previous "Congress on Your Corner" events in Oro Valley, Sierra Vista, Green Valley, Douglas and Tucson have attracted upwards of 150 people.
