Congressman Sander Levin

Community Corner

Welcome to my Community Corner. Here you will find the latest updates on activities and resources related to the 12th Congressional District.

About the 12th District

The 12th Congressional District stretches along 8 Mile Boulevard from Lake St. Clair to Southfield. It includes a wonderful array of large cites, downtowns and neighborhoods. The two major corridors (Woodward Avenue and Gratiot Avenue) allow us to pay tribute to the days of cruising and the auto industry continues to pulse through its streets with the GM Tech Center, assembly plants, stamping plants and numerous auto suppliers. There is a large and increasing defense presence (the “Arsenal of Democracy” was in Warren) and the Army’s research and development center for all wheeled vehicles is headquartered in the 12th. Health Care is another major employer with numerous hospitals in the 12th District as well as campuses for Macomb and Oakland Community college.

Please enjoy these pictures of some landmarks in Oakland and Macomb Counties.

  • District Events

I enjoy my active involvement with numerous organizations and participation in events and projects throughout the different communities I represent in the 12th Congressional District.

In addition to helping you with problems you may be having with federal agencies, my office wants to make sure you are aware of other resources.

President Obama and Congress has set a goal of passing health care reform this year. I am actively engaged, as a Member of the Ways and Means Committee, in drafting the legislation. I believe it is essential that the public be involved in the process and have set up the “Health Hub” to generate discussion and keep you posted on activities at home and in D.C.

I have prepared the Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act map to illustrate the local impact in our communities.

I send out the E-newsletter every week that Congress is in session with updates on legislative action and community activities.

Each month I film an episode of Congressional Connector TV which airs on local government access cable channels. The program is meant to advance a discussion on the important issues facing Michigan residents and our nation as a whole.
