Water Resources Development Act Requests PDF Print E-mail

Congressman Peter Welch is seeking the following funding authorization request and language changes in the Water Resources Development Act of 2010:‪‪

1. $5,000,000 authorization for a sewer separation project in Rutland. This project would construct a l00 CFS capacity storm water collection system. This is currently part of a permitted combined sewer overflow project that is over capacity and results in raw sewage spills into East Creek and Otter Creek.

2. Language change to expand WRDA eligibility in order to allow Lake Champlain projects to qualify for funding. Currently, only certain Champlain initiatives requiring further study can apply for WRDA funding, forcing smaller -- but equally important -- projects to rely soley upon state funding.

3. Language change to waive state and local cost-sharing requirements for Army Corps projects for five years. As municipal and state governments make do with ever-tighter budgets, many critical infrastructure needs are not being met. This change would temporarily allow projects to move forward without matching funds.
