Help with federal agencies

File photo from Administration on Aging depicting a young woman discussing what a senior man is reading.

Whether you are a senior having problems with Social Security, a veteran needing assistance with your benefits, or in need of any assistance with a federal agency, my staff of trained caseworkers is available to help.

You can often obtain an answer or resolve your problems by directly contacting a federal agency or by visiting its web site. You may also wish to visit my Frequently Asked Questions page for self-help guidance. However, when additional help is required, my staff and I will open a case and act as your liaison with the appropriate federal agency.

Of course, I cannot guarantee a favorable response, but I can contact an agency on your behalf and make sure your problem receives fair and timely consideration.

Here’s how to request assistance. First, you must be a resident of the 24th Congressional District. If you live outside the 24th Congressional District, you should contact your Representative. (Go to the House of Representatives site and type your ZIP code into the appropriate boxes at the top left of the page where it says “Find Your Representative.”)

Second, the Privacy Act mandates that we have your written consent before a caseworker can obtain facts about you from any federal agency. The best way to initiate action is to write to me (see Contact page for information), giving me a brief explanation of your problem and ask for my assistance. Be sure to include a case number (if you have one) and any pertinent supporting documents.

I have attached an easy-to-use form to complete and mail or fax to my Thousand Oaks office.

These are some of the most common problems that my staff and I can help you solve:

• Locating lost Social Security, Veteran or Federal Retiree checks and benefits.
• Determining eligibility requirements for Social Security, SSI and Medicare benefits.
• Obtaining military records, dealing with VA hospitals and clinics, reissuing lost, stolen, or unissued service awards.
• Answering inquiries on immigration and citizenship problems.
• Answering inquiries regarding U.S. citizens abroad, visas, passports, and other State Department matters.
• Helping with IRS problems.
• Helping with U.S. Postal delivery problems.
• Questions pertaining to Small Business Administration loan applications.

I cannot offer legal advice or recommend an attorney. I cannot intervene in cases under the jurisdiction of any court. But I will try, when possible, to find an administrative solution within our federal agencies. I look forward to being of assistance to you.
