About the 24th Congressional District

Thumbnail map of 24th Congressional District of California

The 24th Congressional District encompasses most of Ventura County and inland Santa Barbara County. The District’s rich natural resources, including the region’s rugged mountains, fertile valleys and magnificent coastline, attracted the early Spanish settlers as it has the 654,000 residents today.

The District has one of the fastest growing economies in the United States. Major industries include agriculture, oil, aerospace, pharmaceutical, advanced technologies, tourism, automotive, and military testing and development.

In Ventura County, biotechnology has become an important industry along the Highway 101 corridor. Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County and the Point Mugu portion of Naval Base Ventura County are also in the 24th Congressional District. Santa Barbara County boasts more than 18,000 acres of grapevines and more than 60 wineries.

The area has one of the nation’s lowest crime rates, as well as highest percentages of intact families in California. District landmarks include the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in the City of Simi Valley, located in the southeastern portion of the District. Solvang, in central Santa Barbara County, is also known as the Danish Capital of the United States. The City of San Buenaventura, commonly referred to as “Ventura,” is home to the Mission San Buenaventura. Founded by Father Junipero Serra on Easter Sunday in 1782, the mission continues to have services more than 220 years later.

Portions of the Los Padres National Forest, Channel Islands National Park and the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area are in the 24th Congressional District.
