Washington, May 7 - Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04) was presented this week with an award from the American Conservative Union (ACU) for his strong voting record on efforts to create more efficient government, lower taxes, and build a strong national defense.

“To truly address our nation's biggest challenges, we need lasting solutions that will get at the root of the problem: the fact that Washington continues to pass big-government legislation filled with wasteful spending. By committing to responsible spending and protecting taxpayer interests, we will see a more prosperous America for our future generations,” said Forbes.

The ACU presents awards based on ratings for key votes covering a wide variety of issues, which the ACU outlines in its publication 2009 Annual ACU Ratings of Congress for the 111th Congress First Session. Members of Congress are scored on whether they consistently vote to promote principles of liberty and seek to strengthen the Constitution.

The ACU is America's oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization. For nearly 40 years, its annual ratings have been widely regarded as the “gold standard,” and the definitive conservative assessment of the federal legislative branch.
