Frank and Tierney Welcome Announcement of over 2,000
New Green Energy Jobs in Massachusetts

October 12, 2010

WASHINGTON – Congressman Barney Frank warmly welcomed the announcement by DG (the D’Arcinoff Group) and a consortium of companies that early next year it will open facilities in Massachusetts and other states to manufacture clean energy technology equipment. The projects in the short term will bring over 2,000 jobs to Massachusetts alone -- a significant number of these jobs to the Fourth Congressional District.

Frank and other members of Congress have been working with DG on this project for over a year.

“I am very happy that DG Energy has chosen Massachusetts as one of its primary locations,” said Frank. “DG will provide over of 2,000 green jobs statewide, and hundreds of these jobs will be located in the district that I represent. I am committed to working with federal, state and local officials to facilitate the opening of manufacturing facilities in our state, and at the federal level I will make helping DG one of my highest priorities.”

“Today’s announcement is promising news for Massachusetts workers. As the co-author of the Green Jobs Act, I have long advocated for creating jobs in the clean and renewable energy industries. Such jobs are essential to rebuilding our manufacturing sector and putting our economy back on track,” said Congressman John F. Tierney.

The energy consortium will produce wind turbines, blades, solar energy systems and other green energy technologies. The consortium estimates that in the first phase of its project alone it will employ 11,000 people in five states, including Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Ohio, and Indiana. The consortium plans to expand that number to 100,000 within 18 months.

The DG consortium’s expansion in these states is made possible by $3.9 billion in corporate bonds. Manufacturing will largely take place in former automotive facilities. Massachusetts is a particularly desirable location because of its exceptional workforce and the Commonwealth’s commitment to creating green jobs.
