Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney, Chair of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC), will convene a hearing to examine proposals to boost job creation in the private sector. Coming on the heels of President Obama’s jobs summit, and last week’s strong employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the hearing entitled, “The Challenge of Creating Jobs in the Aftermath of the ‘Great Recession’,” will take place on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. in Room 210 of the Cannon House Office Building.  Maloney and other members of the Committee will hear testimony from Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz.  With numerous promising proposals before the Congress, Stiglitz, former Chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors under President Clinton, will discuss the efficiency and effectiveness of different job creation proposals, including additional proposals to increase infrastructure spending, targeted job creation tax credits, and investments in health, education, and clean technologies.  He will also discuss the US trade deficit and what the US needs to do to move from being a net importer to a net exporter.
