Unusual Facts
Having won election as governor of West Virginia in 1940, Matthew M. Neely resigned his Senate seat at midnight on January 13, 1941. Then, at 12:01 a.m., after taking the oath of office as West Virginia governor, Neely appointed Joseph Rosier, president of Fairmont State College, as his successor in the Senate.
