Senate Committee on
Environment and Public Works:
Kalamazoo County (Michigan)
government is committed to promoting a sustainable economy by procuring
post-consumer recycled-content products when possible. For example, for over
five years, 99% of all office paper, copier paper, and janitorial paper products
purchased by Kalamazoo County government contained post-consumer recycled
fiber.
A strong federal commitment
to environmentally preferable purchasing compliments local governmental efforts
by supporting manufacturers which offer environmentally preferable products.
I urge federal departments to
renew their commitment to environmentally preferable purchasing.
I also support a national
bottle deposit system, so the rest of the country can enjoy Michigan's high
recycling rate for depositable beverage containers.
Sincerely,
Steve Leuty
