Taxes

There is a fine line that the federal government must walk when implementing taxes. The government must take in enough revenue to operate, yet it must not over-burden the tax payer who works hard for his or her salary. The federal government needs to create a climate that encourages fiscal growth with the tax code ultimately results in opportunity for businesses and employees alike.

Tax Reform

Reform of our tax code is a pressing matter for Congress, and I support many measures to simplify these laws and to promote tax relief. The existing tax code is extremely complicated, and a tax professional is required in most cases to file. Ideally, every American should be able to understand or prepare his or her own tax returns each year. I will continue to study this issue, and I welcome your input, thoughts, and comments as Congress continues this important debate.

Tax Gap

The Tax Gap is the difference between the amount of revenue collected by the federal government and the amount that is owed.   In Congress, I have supported efforts to close the tax gap and ensure that those who owe money to the federal government are held accountable.
