Mikulski Statement on Freezing Federal Salaries

November 29, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) made the following statement today on the proposal for a two-year freeze on salaries for federal employees:

"Families are stretched and stressed. People want a government that's as frugal and thrifty as they are. Freezing federal employees' pay for two years is a piecemeal approach to the deficit. Federal employees should not be made into scapegoats. They are on the front lines every day, protecting our borders, taking care of our veterans and keeping our food safe. Just last week, they saved hundreds of lives by foiling the Oregon terrorist plot. We need a more comprehensive approach to the deficit. We must reduce federal expenditures with a plan that puts all options on the table."
