Navy Awards Milford Company $16.9 Million

Project to construct waterfront support facility at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and help keep Kittery shipyard competitive

Congressman Mike Michaud and Congresswoman Chellie Pingree praised the announcement by the U.S. Navy that it is awarding the Consigli Construction Company in Milford a contract for $16.9 million to design and construct a waterfront support facility at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery. The project will involve the building of a two-story steel framed addition to one of the shipyard's existing buildings as well as renovations of a portion of the high bay, which will support waterfront repair operations for naval nuclear submarines in dry dock.

“This announcement by the Navy is good news for our state,” said Michaud. “This project will provide jobs for hardworking Mainers, help boost our economy and improve our national defense infrastructure.”

Pingree, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, said the work will help keep the yard competitive. “The Kittery Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is one of the most efficient in the country and it’s important we help them maintain that competitive advantage to guarantee work for years to come.”

According to the U.S. Navy, the project in Kittery is expected to be completed by September 2012. The task order also includes six unexercised options, that if executed could increase the overall funding by $1.03 million.
