Congresswoman Chellie Pingree released the following statement after hearing news that a Coast Guardsman who grew up in Maine had died in a helicopter crash while on duty off the coast of Washington.

"I am deeply saddened by the news of the loss of Lt. Sean Kruger.  The men and women of the Coast Guard put their lives at risk every day to protect mariners and all of us who live near the water appreciate their dedication and sacrifice.  I join all Mainers in mourning the loss of Lt. Kruger.  Our thoughts are with his family and all the members of the Coast Guard during this difficult time."

Lt. Kruger was the commander of the Coast Guard helicopter that crashed off the coast of Washington State yesterday.  Kruger was stationed in Sitka, Alaska and had joined the MH-60 helicopter in Astoria, WA for a delivery flight to Sitka.  Two other Coast Guard personnel were also killed in the crash and another was rescued and is recovering from injuries.
