Today Congresswoman Chellie Pingree praised the thousands of dedicated educators in Maine on Teacher Appreciation Day.
“Thank goodness for the teachers in our lives and in our children’s lives. It’s hard to think of a more important—or challenging—public service than the one they perform for our communities, ” said Pingree. “If you can today, I hope you find the chance to thank or just think about a teacher who saw your potential and helped you pursue it.”
Pingree also congratulated five Maine teachers who were recently selected as semi-finalists for the 2011 Maine Teacher of the Year, including Alice Barr of Yarmouth High School and Kate Gardoqui of Noble High School in Southern Maine.
“Congratulations to these hard-working educators who give everything to their students,” said Pingree. “We are proud and lucky to have you in our state.”
Kevin Grover, a second-grade teacher at D.W. Lunt School in Falmouth, was named the 2010 Maine Teacher of the Year last September.
