17 Maine libraries will be sent books to supplement their American history collections
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree announced today that 17 local libraries have been chosen as recipients of the National Endowment for the Humanities’ We the People Bookshelf Award. Each library will receive 17 books for readers of all ages on the American history theme “A more perfect union.”
“Maine libraries have always been important centers to our towns—and especially in hard times like now they step up for our communities despite having fewer and fewer resources,” said Pingree. “Their service and sacrifice make them the perfect place to learn about the people, deeds, and principles that have shaped our country. I couldn’t imagine better places for these materials to go.”
With books at several reading levels, the offerings include: A More Perfect Union, the Story of Our Constitution; The Great Little Madison; Lincoln Shot: A President’s Life Remembered; American Creation: Triumphs and Tragedies at the Founding of the Republic; and The Civil War: A Film by Ken Burns.
