Congresswoman Chellie Pingree statement on court decision regarding Anthem rate request

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement after a court denied Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maine’s demand for an 18.5% rate increase.

“The court’s decision shows that Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield’s 18.5% rate increase was way out of line.  Maine people can’t afford those kind of dramatic rate increases every year and the court decision show that our Insurance Commissioner did the right thing by denying the request.”

“Every day health insurance becomes out of reach for more Maine families.  That is why it was important to pass health care reform, which will keep costs under control and make coverage more affordable for all Americans.”
