$100 million in contracts announced for BIW and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

Work will include DDG 1000 and repairs to dry dock at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, a Member of the House Armed Services Committee, today announced nearly $100 million in Navy contracts for Bath Iron Works and Cianbro Corporation.

“Both BIW and Cianbro have a well earned reputation for high quality, on-time work—and these contracts are a reflection of that.”

Bath Iron Works is being awarded a $79.5 million modification to a previous contract to exercise an option for additional services related to the design and construction of the DDG 1000, for work to be performed in Bath.

This year the House Armed Services Committee authorized funding for the completion of a third DDG 1000 at BIW.  “I worked with my colleagues on the Committee to get this funding because it is critical to keep workers at BIW fully employed,” Pingree said.

Cianbro Corporation is being awarded a $19.5 million contract for work on a dry dock at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery. The work is expected to take place over the next year.

“The repair work in Kittery is necessary to maintain capacity at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard,” Pingree said.  “The yard has proven that they are a tremendous asset for the Navy and improvements and maintenance of the infrastructure there is essential to keeping the yard operating at full capacity.”

Earlier this year Pingree toured both Bath Iron Works and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard with Navy Secretary Ray Mabus.
