Congresswoman Chellie Pingree announces federal funding for Sanford Airport

Sanford Town Manager calls it "great news"

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree today announced that the Town of Sanford will be receiving over $2 million for construction at the Sanford Regional Airport.  The money will allow Sanford to build a new taxiway and rehabilitate a runway.

“This is the kind of funding that not only provides construction jobs right here in Maine but will also make the airport an even more valuable asset to Sanford.  Investments like this will help get the economy in Maine moving again and get people back to work.”

The funding will allow the town to build a new taxiway adjacent to the main runway, which will increase capacity and make the airport safer.  Runway rehabilitation work will be also be funded by this federal grant.

Sanford Town Manager Mark Green said construction will start this summer on the taxiway, with a local company doing the work.

“The airport is an economic engine for the region,” Green said.  “Business depend on it and it brings economic development to our community.  Getting this funding is great news.”
