Congressional Art Competition

It is my pleasure to announce the Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery. This competition is conducted by members of the U.S. House of Representatives to showcase the artistic talents of high school students throughout the country. The event allows our Fourth Congressional district high school students an opportunity to display their creativity in the halls of the nation’s Capitol for one year.

Entries need to be submitted to my Congressional office by May 2010. All submitted entries will then be judged in a district-wide competition, and the overall winning artist and entry will be invited to Washington, D.C. for a reception honoring the young artists. There will be a district art expo to showcase all submitted artwork and honor winners in each category and the overall winner in May 2010. The reception in Washington will be held on June 2010.

The guidelines of the competition are as follows:

  • Only high school students residing in Tennessee’s 4th Congressional District may compete.
  • A student release form must be attached to the art work submitted.
  • All artworks must be original and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws.
  • All artwork must be two-dimensional.
  • Artwork, when framed, can be no larger that 30" high x 30" wide x 4" deep.
  • Acceptable categories include: Paintings, Drawings, Collage, Prints, Mixed Media, Computer generated art, and Photography.
  • The deadline for submission is May 2010
