Project Requests for Upcoming Transportation Reauthorization Bill

Listed below you will find the transportation project requests that I have submitted for consideration in the upcoming surface transportation legislation. You can also download the list in PDF format. Please note that not all projects will be funded and those that are funded may receive less than requested:

Commonwealth of Massachusetts:

  1. Design, permit and construct the extension of the MBTA Green Line from Medford Hillside to Mystic Valley Parkway/Route 16, Medford, MA. Requested Amount: $104,000,000
  2. Design and construct transportation improvements at the I-93/Mystic Avenue/Route 28 Interchange at Assembly Square in Somerville, MA. Requested Amount: $80,000,000
  3. Design, acquire rights, engineer and construct South Station Intermodal Transportation Center Expansion Project, Boston, MA. Requested Amount: $68,000,000
  4. Design and engineer the Silver Line Phase III project through Preliminary Engineering. Requested Amount: $13,600,000
  5. Complete construction of a new station on the existing Orange Line at Assembly Square in Somerville integral to mixed-use, transit oriented development. Requested Amount: $25,000,000
  6. Fund environmental permitting, preliminary engineering, final design, construction and rolling stock purchase for the Urban Ring Phase 2, Northern Tier (Logan Airport to Kendall Square) and Southern Tier (Kendall Square to Logan Airport). Requested Amount: $520,000,000
  7. Planning, permitting, design, and construction of transportation and circulation improvements in the West End of Boston near Charles Circle., including Storrow Dr, Charles Circle, Longfellow Bridge, Cambridge St, and Blossom St. Requested Amount: $3,800,000

New Starts Reauthorizations:
A project must be authorized before it can enter the New Starts Program. The projects listed below were authorized in the last transportation bill and I am requesting that this designation continue so that they may remain in the New Starts Program.

  1. New Start Project Development Authorization for Silver Line Phase III
  2. New Start Project Development Authorization for Urban Ring Bus Rapid Transit Phase III
  3. New Start Project Development Authorization for Green Line Extension Beyond Lechmere Transit Improvements to Somerville/Medford
  4. New Start Project Development Authorization for Assembly Square

Boston:

  1. Design and reconstruction of the Columbia Road corridor in Boston to connect Dorchester and Roxbury to Uphams Corner, Everett Square, the Harbor and Columbia Point. Requested Amount: $40,000,000
  2. Final design, environmental review and reconstruction of the Rutherford Avenue corridor in Boston to provide multi-modal transportation connections and environmental and economic development benefits to surrounding communities. Requested Amount: $68,000,000
  3. Plan, Design, Engineer, Construction/reconstruction of the North Washington Street Bridge including conducting all environmental reviews, analysis and rehabilitation/realignment as necessary. Requested Amount: $5,000,000
  4. Replacement, reconstruction, right of way acquisition, and vertical realignment of Saratoga Street Bridge. Requested Amount: $5,000,000
  5. Planning, design, engineering and construction or reconstruction of the Dalton Street Bridge including conducting environmental reviews, rehabilitation, and/or replacement. Requested Amount: $6,400,000
  6. Construct, plan, design, engineer, reconstruct and conduct environmental review for Phase II Commonwealth Avenue Improvements. Requested Amount: $18,400,000
  7. Design and construct vehicular and pedestrian safety improvements, including roadway reconstruction and realignment and pedestrian and transportation enhancements, on Forsyth Way between Huntington Avenue and the Fenway. Requested Amount: $3,000,000

Cambridge:

  1. Acquire the Watertown Branch right of way from the Fitchburg main line in Cambridge to Grove Street in Watertown, plan/design a rail with trail and conduct track rehabilitation/re-alignment as needed. Requested Amount: $4,000,000
  2. Design, engineer and construct Main Street infrastructure (streets, sidewalks and lighting) in Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA, to provide enhanced multi-model connections and improve access for persons with disabilities. Requested Amount: $8,000,000
  3. Design, engineer, and construct the Grand Junction Rail-With-Trail/Community Path as approved by the City of Cambridge, MA. Project may include realignment of the existing rail and/or acquisition of right-of-way. Requested Amount: $2,000,000
  4. Design and construct sidewalk, roadway and landscape improvements to the approaches to the Longfellow Bridge in Cambridge MA. Requested Amount: $3,000,000
  5. Design and engineer a bicycle and pedestrian connection across the Fitchburg main line in the Alewife area of Cambridge, and conduct a project environmental review. Requested Amount: $2,400,000

Somerville:

  1. Construction of the Somerville Community Path from Central Street to the Cambridge city line. Requested Amount: $16,000,000
  2. Reconstruction of Broadway in East Somerville from Garfield Avenue to the Boston City Line including an alignment shift between Franklin and Glen Streets. Work includes streetscape improvements the entire project length. Requested Amount: $3,275,000
  3. Final design, engineering and reconstruction of Beacon Street from Oxford Street to Cambridge city line. Work includes streetscape and burring utilities underground. Requested Amount: $13,600,000
  4. Construct, design, engineer, and acquire right of way for Union Square Improvements including final design, engineering and construction of roadway, drainage, transit, pedestrian, bicycle, and streetscape elements. Requested Amount: $12,000,000
  5. Transportation study and preliminary design of Boynton Yards between Medford and Webster Streets. Work includes completion of 100% design of roadway, intersections, utilities, and streetscape. Requested Amount: $1,400,000
  6. Transportation study and preliminary design of Washington Street from Rossmore St. in Somerville to Boston city line. Work includes completion of 25% design of roadway, intersections, utilities, and streetscape. Requested Amount: $1,600,000
