Federal Grant to Enhance Downtown Bremerton Development

9/24/2010 – Gov. Chris Gregoire announced that Washington was awarded $27.5 million for salmon recovery efforts by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office from the Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund, an annual Congressional appropriation provided to the states.

Army Plans Indicate Substantial Boost for JBLM Population
9/10/2010 – The Army has published a plan today that could boost the Joint Base Lewis McChord population by up to 5,700 service people with the anticipated addition of a "combat aviation brigade" (CAB) and an already-planned increase of service support personnel, U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks said Friday.

Contractor Selected for Elwha Dam Removal
8/27/2010 – Barnard Construction Company of Bozeman, Montana has been selected as the contractor to remove the Elwha and Glines Canyon dams on the Olympic Peninsula's Elwha River. The National Park Service's Denver Service Center announced award of the $26,939,800 contract today. Dam removal will begin approximately 13 months from now, in September 2011.

House Passes Bill That Saves 3,300 Education Jobs In Washington
8/10/2010 – Today Norm joined a majority in the House in passing H.R. 1586, the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act.  This bill includes $10 billion in funding to save teacher jobs; and $16.1 billion in health assistance to the states that, by reducing shortfalls, will help keep many others on the job, including public safety officers.  Specifically under the bill, Washington State is estimated to receive an additional $338 million in Medicaid match funding.  The bill will also allow the State of Washington to retain 3,300 education jobs. The legislation was fully paid for with offsetting budget reductions from other federal accounts.

Rep. Dicks Details New Effort to Rehabilitate Schools on Military Bases
8/10/2010 – A House subcommittee has launched a national initiative to renovate or replace schools operated by local school districts on U.S. military bases, according to U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks, Chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, who added $250 million to next year’s defense spending bill to address problems of capacity and poor physical conditions in the elementary and secondary schools.

7/28/2010 – The Association of the United States Army recognized Congressman Norm Dicks at its Outstanding Legislator Award presentation July 28 on Capitol Hill. Dicks, chairman of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, said in accepting the award, “We are committed to helping the troops” and that his committee has and “needs to operate on a bipartisan basis.  I pledge to you that I will keep that going.”

Interior Bill Adds Funding for Puget Sound Cleanup
7/22/2010 – Rep. Norm Dicks has included another significant boost for the Puget Sound pollution cleanup effort in next year’s Interior funding bill.   In legislation approved by the House Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee today, the congressman added another $50 million as part of his effort to expand the federal government’s research and remedial work on Puget Sound, the nation’s second largest estuary.

6/30/2010 – The official release of the documents related to the WTO panel decision in the Airbus subsidy case only offers further definitive proof that the so-called “launch aid,” provided by the European governments to Airbus caused material harm to Boeing, allowing Airbus to improperly seize market share and causing the loss of thousands of aerospace jobs in the United States.
