Platts Nominates Elisa Esh for 2010 Congressional "Angels in Adoption" Award

Dillsburg resident will receive the award at a ceremony today

Washington, D.C. – Elisa Esh of Dillsburg was recently selected by U.S. Congressman Todd Platts (PA-19) to be one of more than 140 Congressional Angels in Adoption™ honored at a national ceremony held today in Washington, D.C by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI).  Ms. Esh currently serves as the Director of Recruitment and Family Development for Diakon Adoption and Foster Care in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

“It was a great honor for me to nominate Elisa Esh for this well-deserved recognition,” Congressman Platts said.  “I applaud her enthusiasm and dedication for finding a permanent home for every child in foster care.”

Ms. Esh has been actively engaged in adoption and foster care services for more than a decade. Ms. Esh has formed partnerships with private and public organizations across Pennsylvania in an effort to raise awareness about the number of children in foster care without a permanent family.  She helped to create outreach programs for families registered with the Pennsylvania Adoption Exchange who are interested in youth over the age of ten and is also the creator of a family finding program that supports reconnections with birth parents and kin for older youth in the foster care system.

Ms. Esh is the recipient of numerous awards for her work, including the 2008 Outstanding Services to Adoption Award presented by the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network Advisory Board and the Adoption Excellence Award from the Administration on Children and Families - Children’s Bureau for her contributions in providing adoption for children in foster care.

CCAI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about foster children in the U.S. and the millions of orphans around the world in need of permanent, safe, and loving homes.  CCAI’s goal is to eliminate the barriers that hinder these children from realizing their basic right to a family.

The Angels in Adoption™ program is CCAI’s signature public awareness campaign and provides an opportunity for all members of the U.S. Congress to honor the good work of their constituents who have enriched the lives of foster children and orphans in the United States and abroad.
