Fleming Releases Statement Commemorating Veterans Day

Washington, Nov 11 - Today, Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement to commemorate Veterans Day.

“As a former Naval officer and a citizen of this country, I know there is no one we owe a greater debt of gratitude to than the men and women who bravely fought for our freedom. Each year on November 11, our country comes together to honors these patriots, their families and all who have sacrificed for the common good of our country. We will never be able to fully honor and repay our Veterans for all they have done, but today gives all Americans a chance to show them our support. May God continue to bless our troops, their families and the United States of America.”

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War. Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November 11th became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars.
