Veterans History Project

The Veterans History Project of the American Folklife Center was created in 2000 to preserve, and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. It is our hope, that through the accounts of those that have served our great nation, we will never forget the many that have perished to give us the freedom and liberties we all cherish.

William E. Price enlisted into the Army Air Corps on July 7th, 1943 serving until March 28th, 1946. During service in World War II, Price’s B-29 was hit by a Japanese kamikaze fighter over Nagoya, Japan where he was taken captive as a prisoner of war. Due to his honorable service in the Army Air Corps, Staff Sergeant Price was awarded an Air Medal, Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster, a POW medal, a Presidential Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster, a Good Conduct Medal with Bar, a Victory Medal, and an Asiatic/Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Battle Stars, and an American Theater Ribbon.
