Ghailani Case Shows Why Civilian Courts Are No Place for Foreign Terrorists at War with U.S.

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after a judge’s ruling barred the Obama administration from calling a key witness in the civilian trial against Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani. Ghaliani may go free because the jury will never hear testimony from the man who sold him explosives used to bomb two U.S. embassies in Africa in 1998. Between 1998 and his capture in 2004, Ghailani became a top al Qaeda operative and Osama bin Laden’s personal bodyguard.

“Foreign terrorists at war with the United States do not belong in civilian courts,” said Congressman Price. “If the Obama administration’s hubris leads to an acquittal for Ghailani, will he be released back into the world to launch more attacks against Americans? The very question is horrifying, and it would never have been asked but for President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder’s pandering to their liberal supporters.

“The Administration’s reckless and politically-motivated decision to turn this war into a law enforcement action has put American lives at risk. And, it raises serious doubts about whether Attorney General Holder should continue to serve as the United States’ top law enforcement official.”
