RSC Offers Lower Cost Alternative to Democrats’ Bloated Spending Plan

The start of the 2011 fiscal year is just one week away, yet Democrats have not passed a budget or enacted any of the twelve annual appropriations bills that fund the federal government. Their plan is to pass a short-term “continuing resolution,” which may also include more than $20 billion in additional spending requested by President Obama, and return after the election to spend even more. Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after he and other RSC members introduced a better solution, which would fund the federal government for a full year while saving $99 billion compared to the Democrats’ plan.

“Democrats are continuing resolutely down the path to bankruptcy and ruin,” said Congressman Price. “The majority’s plan to hold a Lame Duck spending binge is both arrogant and reckless. How many times must Americans demand a stop to these trillion dollar deficits before Democrats finally pay attention? The federal government has placed a mountain of debt on the backs of American taxpayers. Going farther down this road will crush our economy completely.

“All this debt has folks holding their breath in anticipation of disaster. Republicans understand Washington needs to start cutting spending today so our economy has room to breathe again. Democrats have refused to write a budget or cut government spending, but we have a better solution that begins to roll back the massive spending of the last few years.”

NOTE: The RSC’s continuing resolution holds non-security discretionary spending at FY 2008 levels, continues current funding for defense, veterans, and homeland security, defunds ObamaCare, extends the House Republicans’ earmark moratorium through FY 2011, and ensures pro-life protections. It includes none of the billions of dollars in new spending requested by President Obama. Click here for more details.
