Rising Unemployment No Time to Raise Taxes

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after 27 states reported that their unemployment rates rose during the month of August.

“Economists may say the recession ended last year, but a lot of Americans have yet to see any sign of recovery,” said Congressman Price. “Unemployment is already far too high, and it is rising again in one of every two states. So why do Democrats still insist on raising taxes? Employers are already reluctant to take on rising labor costs imposed by the government. The Obama-Pelosi tax increase will cut small businesses’ payrolls precisely when we want them to hire and expand. It is never a good time to punish job creators with higher taxes, but especially not now. Washington does not need to tax more, it needs to spend less.
