Price Asks, “What Is the Holdup?” on Tax Vote

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement asking Speaker Pelosi why House Democrats continue to delay the vote necessary to save families and small businesses from being hit with a $3.9 trillion tax hike on January 1, 2011.

“Speaker Pelosi keeps saying Democrats will not raise taxes on working Americans, yet her party has thus far failed to let Congress act,” said Congressman Price. “Rather than consider a smart economic strategy to provide some certainty to the economy, Democrats have huddled in private to weigh their political strategy. Small businesses have delayed hiring in fear of these looming tax increases, and still Democrat leaders refuse to schedule a vote. There is a bipartisan majority in the House willing to save families and small businesses from the brutal impact of the biggest tax hike in American history. So what is the holdup? No one should face a tax increase in this tough economy, and no one should have to sit back in fear of it any longer. Let’s hold an open, up-or-down vote on whether or not to halt all tax increases so the public can see where their elected representatives really stand.”
