Price: “We Need Jobs, Not Genome Maps”

House Democrats are coordinating this week to push the message that their failed economic policies are good for small businesses. Meanwhile, the Obama administration issued a report today touting its stimulus package for “bringing the cost of a personal human genome map to under $1,000 in five years.” Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) released the following statement in response.

“Once again, Democrats are proving they do not understand what really needs to be done to turn this economy around,” said Congressman Price. “Finding less expensive ways to map the human genome is a laudable goal. But how is that going to bring down massive unemployment? Right now, we need jobs, not genome maps. This is exactly why Americans are so frustrated with the Democrats’ failed economic policies. A cheaper genome map five years from now does not do a thing to help families pay the bills today.

“Democrats claim they are helping small businesses, but they neglect to mention their votes for a job-killing agenda that has employers on the defensive. Here’s the real story. Democrats are on record in favor of a job-killing tax on energy consumption, huge new health care costs for employers, and a massive tax increase on families and small businesses set to take effect on January 1, 2011. And don’t forget their proposed trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see. Far from helping the economy, these policies are only making things worse.

“Putting this economy back on track will take a clear and credible focus on creating a healthy environment for job creators. While Democrats continue to show how out-of-touch they have become, Republicans are listening to what families and employers really need, which is less intrusion, debt, and tax hikes from Washington.”
