Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement in response to reports that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid plans to call his colleagues back to Washington for a lame duck session after the November elections. Chairman Price has introduced a resolution calling on Congress to agree not to use a lame duck session to pursue any further items on the Democrats’ agenda that will destroy jobs, saddle American families with tax increases, and recklessly drive up our nation’s unsustainable debt.

“To some extent you have to appreciate Senator Reid’s willingness to at least admit Democrats plan to use a lame duck session of Congress. Though it is of little comfort to the American people when Democrats will use this time to ram through their job-killing agenda,” said Congressman Price. “Congress should pledge to those who have elected them that they will not circumvent the basic rule of accountability by pursuing, after the fact, legislation that the American people do not want and which our economy cannot afford. Democrats have made it a habit of legislating without the consent of the people and, when it came to health care reform and massive deficit spending, in direct opposition to their concerns. When the House of Representatives returns next week, I hope Democrats will join Republicans in passing my no lame duck resolution and pledging to the American people that Washington is ready and willing to listen to their voices.”
