Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after reports surfaced that the Department of Health and Human Services will provide $160 million in taxpayer money to Pennsylvania for an ObamaCare insurance program that will include coverage for abortions.

“President Obama and other liberals repeatedly promised that ObamaCare would not subsidize abortion with taxpayer money,” said Congressman Price. “Now, Americans can see just how little those promises were worth. The President’s Executive Order, which he claimed would prevent taxpayer-funding of abortion, was clearly just another rhetorical tool to help Democrats pass their government takeover of health care. This is the first reported example of ObamaCare forcing taxpayers to subsidize abortion, but it will almost certainly not be the last.

“Republicans will not abandon the sanctity of human life. ObamaCare must be repealed and replaced with patient-centered reforms that do not force taxpayers to subsidize abortion coverage. Republicans have a number of better solutions for health care reform, including H.R. 3400, the Empowering Patients First Act.”
