Stimulus Estimates Have No Relation to Reality

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement on the latest stimulus claims published in a report today by Christina Romer, Chair of the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers.

“Once again, the Obama administration is touting completely unrealistic estimates as proven fact,” said Congressman Price. “Indeed, the word ‘estimate’ is actually used more than 160 times in the report. The same White House that said ObamaCare would save money and the stimulus would keep unemployment below 8 percent now wants to distract the American people with this report even though it has no relation to the reality we see across this country. If the Obama Administration expects anyone to take its claims seriously, it needs to start basing them on real world data. Of course, relying on facts would interrupt the Democrats’ discredited narrative that their so-called stimulus actually worked.

“The Democrats’ job-killing agenda has made families and businesses incredibly unsure about the future. To change course, Washington must first come to grips with reality. The stimulus has failed, and every penny of its spending is a penny taken away from the private sector in the first place. Republicans believe we need a more positive strategy, in which American families and entrepreneurs keep and invest more of the money they work so hard to earn.”
