Democrats Refuse to Reform Fannie & Freddie
Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement in support of the American people’s choice for this week’s YouCut target, a proposal to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. This proposal would save an estimated $30 billion by ending these government-sponsored entities’ taxpayer-funded conservatorship, shrinking their portfolios, establishing minimum capital standards, and bringing transparency to taxpayers.
“The $145 billion bailout for Fannie and Freddie gets bigger every month,” said Congressman Price. “House Republicans produced a plan to stop this hemorrhaging of taxpayer money years ago. What have Democrats done to help? Not a thing. Instead, they make the absurd claim that reforming Fannie and Freddie now would be ‘too complicated.’ Will Democrats find it easier to explain why their supposed desire to end bailouts and save money is all talk and no action? Talk is cheap, but the Democrats who voted against this common sense proposal just cost taxpayers $30 billion. No wonder they have lost all credibility with the public. The American people can see who’s really on their side.
“In the first three YouCut votes alone, Democrats have blocked taxpayer savings of an estimated $85 billion. Even so, Republicans will continue to partner with the American people in finding responsible, common sense savings.”
